In the 37th year of the Showa Era (1962), Tori Ten Fried Chicken was first popularized in a restaurant in Oita city. At that time, large size fried chickens were popular; however, a chef at a restaurant saw that ladies were struggling to eat them. The chef cut the chicken into smaller pieces and cooked them. The fried chickens, which are eaten with vinegar, soy source and mustard quickly became popular and were called Tori Ten. Today, it is a representative dish of the Oita food culture.
