The Furuyu Onsen is located in the valley between the Sefuri Mountain Range and Mount Tenzan on the border of Fukuoka prefecture and Northern Saga. Located 200 meters off sea level, enjoy the traditional Japanese scenery and 13 onsen inns and one public bath along Kase River. The onsen town has a small, cozy atmosphere.
Furuyu Onsen is unique for its “Nuruyu”, which means “lukewarm water”. At the source of the spring, the water is only about 43℃, which would be hard to find at any other onsen, and the bathwater is as low as 36~39℃. This low temperature “Nuruyu” is kind to the body, which is why some locals bathe for over an hour every day. A second meaning of “Nuruyu” is the slippery texture of the water. The simple alkaline spring water has a healing effect on skin conditions and also whitens and beautifies the skin. Soak in the bath for a long time to allow your body to fully absorb the beneficial qualities of the spring.
Not only are there traditional, long-established Ryokan inns, but there also new inns serving locally grown Saga vegetables. This Onsen Town remain vibrant and energetic.

The first point fascinated me is the Onsen water quality! This Onsen is called “ Bijin-yu (Make you beautiful)” and good for skin trouble or whitening. The temperature is also known as “ Nuru-yu (lukewarm hot-water)”. Though I’m not used to bath in hot water, I could enjoy half body bathing more than 30mins with Nuru-yu!
This Furuyu Onsen is rather cozy town and you hear sound of a river, a small murmur. The scenery is a kind of art. I understand why many artists love this hiding place. I think you can refresh yourself in mentally and physically.
