“Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine” worships the god of study and about 8,000,000 visitors come to this historical shrine every year. On the grounds there are omikukuji (fortune slips) whose color changes with each season and a bronze bull statue which is said to make anyone who rubs his head smart, and it is also known as a place boasting roughly 6,000 plum trees which bloom in February and March. A little up the mountain from Dazaifu Station by car or bus is "Kamado Shrine. You can get amulets with surprisingly modern designs at the shrine shop and enjoy the view from the observation platform.
  • Hita
In the Edo Period, a lord reigned over the land of Hita and it is an area where the remnants of the time still remain. Among them, the historic white walled townscapes of “Mameda Machi” continue and will make you feel as though you had gone back in time. The special points of Hita's famous food, "Hita Yaki Soba," are the crisply stir-fried noodles and lots of bean sprouts, and you can eat it at many shops around town. For dinner, we recommend eating while you cruise down the river on a "Yakatabune," a boat laid with tatami mats. Every year from May until the end of October you can see "Ukai," traditional fishing using cormorants, from the boats.
