    Dazaifu
“Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine” worships the god of study and about 8,000,000 visitors come to this historical shrine every year. The approach to the shrine is lined with shops selling “Umegae Mochi” (grilled mochi rice cakes filled with sweet red bean paste) and souvenirs. A little up the mountain from Dazaifu Station by car or bus is “Kamado Shrine”. It is said that love will be fulfilled if you write your wish and name on an “Enmusubikoyori” paper and put it on the tree of happiness. Be sure to see the amulets with surprisingly modern designs at the shrine shop and the amazing view from the observation platform.
  • Yufuin
Yufuin, one of the most popular onsen hot springs resorts in Japan, is crowded with onsen hot springs inns boasting of outdoor baths with amazing views of the mountains. The main street of Yufuin is filled with many tourists all year round. With superb sweets and general goods, refined things and more, it is perfect for choosing souvenirs. If you are staying, getting up early and going to see the morning mist at Lake Kinrin is recommended. The fog stands thickly on the surface of the lake like a cover and the atmosphere is fantastic. Additionally, it is known as an arts town and there are many large and small museums scattered about.

    Kitsuki

    Kitsuki
Kitsuki has a samurai residence on the north-south hill and a merchant's city was wedged in the valley so it is an unusual sandwich-like castle town. If you change into a rental kimono and walk down the stone paved slope, you can go back in time to the Edo period. From the lovely-sized Kitsuki you can see the 360 degree panoramic view. If you get hungry, eat the two local gourmet foods. You can taste “Kitsuki Sandwich,” various sandwiches named after the shape of the town, and “Kitsuki Do-todon,” a rice bowl stuffed with a mountain of diverse seafood.
  • Bungotakada
National Highway 213, running along the coastline of Bungotakada City, is called “Koikana Road,” or love comes true road. Murals are painted on the inside of the “Love Tunnel,” where you can take pictures of people together with the murals, the work of Yoko Ono and other world famous artists is scattered about, and there are other spots recommended for couples to choose from such as Nagasakibana, where there is a “Koi Musubu Kane,” a lovers' bell, “Matamakaigan” coast, where you can see the romantic sunset sinking into the tidal flats, and “Awashimasha” Shrine, known as a shrine that fulfills women's wishes.

You can enjoy a nostalgic feeling at Mojiko harbor, which once prospered as an international trade port. There is “Moji Port Retro Area,” where Western-style buildings left from 100 years ago stand side by side. Besides commercial facilities, it is enriched by museums, art museums and other spots you can stop by. You can also easily enjoy cruises to see the town from the water. Additionally, seafood such as octopus raised in the fast ocean current of the Kanmon Strait are excellent dishes. “Yaki Curry,” curry rice baked in an oven, is a gourmet specialty of Mojiko and is offered by more than 30 shops.
